asensei launches connected coaching product for indoor rowing
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 10, 2017 - Today, asensei, Inc., a Connected Coaching (TM) company specializing in digital sports coaching and smart apparel technology, announced that they are now accepting athletes who wish to perfect their indoor rowing practice with real-time guidance and coaching. Rowers who wish to get recruited or win scholarships, indoor rowers who want to master their technique, smash a personal best or win competitions, or those for whom rowing is a part of their strength, conditioning or fitness practice, all have the opportunity to subscribe to coaching programs and train under the real-time instruction of world-class athletes and coaches.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist and advisor to asensei, Helen Glover, said of her Olympic training, "I worked out that in an Olympic cycle, I take about 4 million practice strokes. For every stroke in an Olympic final, I've taken 16,000 practice strokes. This realization highlighted for me the quality of practice - it's not just being out there taking those strokes, but making sure I'm doing the right thing and having the right learning to make sure I'm ready to perform. This is why I was excited when I was introduced to the team at asensei, and look forward to helping them help more athletes discover and unlock their potential with perfect practice."
Kinetic Capture is a technology that asensei offers royalty-free to athletic wear companies who wish to create smart apparel that can coach athletes in their chosen sport, by observing their posture and technique with embedded motion capture sensors. Matt Powell, VP and Sports Industry Analyst of NPD Group recently discussed how brands can take considerable share of market by offering "many options for customization and personalization". With Kinetic Capture, customization extends to include coaching and personalization extends to personal training.
Of the decision to launch a new line of performance rowing apparel with Kinetic Capture, Derek Wiseman, COO of Jakroo, Inc. said "Jakroo offers our customers performance triathlon, nordic skiing and cycling apparel that they can fully customize the design of whether they are ordering 1 or 1000. With asensei, we have found a partner that allows us to introduce a new performance product for the rowing community - one where we can help them reach their goals by integrating personalized performance clothing with personalized performance coaching."
Of the initial coaching that will be offered to the rowing community, asensei CEO Steven Webster said, "we are launching with 3 national and Olympic athletes who wish to pass their experience and expertise to the next generation of athletes. Team USA's Hans Struzyna will help high school and college athletes follow the journey he made from getting recruited at University of Washington to rowing in the Rio Olympics. Team GB's Dr Cameron Nichol will bring his Master the Machine seminars that he has taught in CrossFit boxes and gyms around the world, to anyone who wants to improve their indoor rowing times and technique. And for individuals who want to incorporate rowing towards their fitness, strength or conditioning goals Team USA's Johan Quie will bring the programming from his San Francisco RowClub studio to offer studio workouts at home, enhanced by individual goal-setting and personal coaching per athlete." Jakroo apparel with Kinetic Capture will be available for posture and technique coaching next year.
In addition to tracking an athlete's posture and movement in real-time, asensei talks with the world's best selling Concept 2 rowing machine in real-time, to track performance and metrics. This allows asensei to monitor the performance of the athlete over every stroke, and focus technique and skill training towards opportunities to improve performance and metrics.
Of the agreement to partner with asensei by offering coaching subscriptions with the lease and sale of Concept 2 rowing machines in New Zealand, former New Zealand Olympic Single Sculler and owner of Concept 2 New Zealand, Gary Reid said "As an equipment provider, we have been looking for a way to make the purchase of a rowing machine the beginning of our relationship with an athlete, not the end. Working with asensei over the last year in the region while they test and trial the product with local rowers, we are embracing the idea of offering our customers a subscription that includes the Concept 2 rowing machine paired with a goal-specific coaching program. Whether they're a high school rower who want to get recruited by a US university, a masters rower who wants to bring purpose to their practice, or individuals who recognize rowing as a low-impact and high-effectiveness workout for weight-loss or recovery from injury, we want to help our customers reach their goals with subscription coaching offerings."
Initial coaching programs will simply require a Concept 2 and iOS device, with other platforms to follow.
Athletes who sign up for asensei in the coming weeks will be slowly let into the program on a first-come, first-served basis. asensei will be giving away a number of lifetime and discounted memberships in a flash sale at a surprise date in the coming weeks. Whether a current or aspiring rower, or keen for asensei to coach a different sport, athletes are encouraged to visit www.asensei.com and sign-up to be notified of the membership sale.
